Description
Delicious, mouthwatering homemade meatballs are cooked perfectly in the air fryer before being nestled into a sub roll with gooey cheese and marinara sauce. The perfect, hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef (85/15)
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1/3 cup Italian breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbs milk
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 2 tbs olive oil
- 24 oz jar marinara sauce
- 4 sub rolls
- 8 slices provolone cheese
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, pepper and salt. Mix well by hand until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Using hands (wet with cold water to prevent sticking), shape the meat mixture into 1.5″ balls. Don’t make them too dense. Set on a large plate. When done, drizzle meatballs with olive oil.
- Preheat air fryer for 5 minutes at 380°F
- Place meatballs into preheated air fryer basket (or on tray for tray style air fryers) and use the air fry setting for 12-14 minutes, turning meatballs occasionally. Meatballs are done when internal temperature reached 165°F with an instant read thermometer.
- In a large skillet, add marinara sauce and simmer over medium-low heat. Add cooked meatballs and toss to coat.
- Place 2 slices of cheese in each sub roll. Add meatballs and spoon on any additional sauce as desired.
