Description

This easy stovetop honey garlic chicken is foolproof deliciousness. Just sear, simmer in that sticky-sweet sauce, and watch it disappear from plates in minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast or thighs, cut into medium-sized cubes
  • 1/3 cup onion, small diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Add the olive oil and swirl to coat the pan.
  2. Add the diced chicken to the skillet and sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is golden on the outside.
  3. Add the diced onion to the pan and continue cooking for 3–5 more minutes, until the onion is soft and the chicken is mostly cooked through.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
  5. Add the soy sauce, honey, sugar, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes to the skillet. Stir everything together and cook for another 3 minutes, allowing the sauce to start thickening.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk the cornstarch with the water to make a slurry. Pour the slurry into the skillet, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens. If you’d like a thinner sauce, add an extra splash of water and stir to combine.
  7. Continue cooking for 2–3 more minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  8. Remove from heat, plate the chicken, and spoon the sauce over the top. Serve hot and enjoy.
