Description

Love Sloppy Joes? Try this Sloppy Joe Biscuit Bake. It’s a cheesy, hearty casserole with juicy beef, golden biscuits, and rich sauce – perfect for the whole family!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 15-oz. can tomato sauce
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1½ Tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits, cut into quarters
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 Tbsp butter, melted (for brushing biscuits, optional)
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley or green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 3-quart (9×13-inch) baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until mostly browned. Add the onion and cook 3-4 minutes, until softened.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, until thickened. Taste and adjust seasoning to taste.
  4. Gently fold half of the biscuit quarters into the sloppy joe mixture until just coated.
  5. Transfer the sloppy-joe and biscuit mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top, then nestle the remaining biscuit quarters into the top of the casserole.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes. At the 15-minute mark, loosely cover the dish with aluminum foil to prevent the biscuits from over-browning. The casserole is ready when the biscuits are golden and cooked through, and the center is hot and bubbly.
  7. Let rest 10 minutes before serving. Optional step: Immediately before serving, brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter. Garnish with fresh herbs.

Notes

Any remaining sloppy joe biscuit bake can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place a serving on a microwave-safe plate and heat until warmed through.
