Why I Love This Air Fryer Apple Chips Recipe

Apple season is upon us! Which means all the cozy and delicious apple recipes are back. I love making my Homemade Apple Pie Roll Ups, Pumpkin Apple Muffins, and Apple Pie Bars, but I’ve been craving something crunchy… something that fulfills my craving for crispy chips.

So, I introduce my air fryer apple chips! They’re crunchy, sweet, and have all the flavors of a classic apple pie, but in chip form. And making them in an air fryer rather than a traditional oven makes them even easier and healthier.

Munch on them during movie night, pack them in your lunch for a sweet and nutritious snack, or use them as a topping on your morning oatmeal or yogurt. Anything goes!

Ingredients for air fryer apple chips.

    Ingredients

    • Honeycrisp or Gala apples: I like these kinds of apples because they have the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness, plus they hold their shape and don’t get mushy when heated
    • Lemon juice & water: These help draw out moisture from the apples, creating ultra crispy apple chips.
    • Brown sugar: Caramelizes in the air fryer for that rich, golden sweetness.
    • White sugar: For an extra touch of sweetness.
    • Ground cinnamon: The classic cozy flavor that makes cinnamon apple chips irresistible.

    Make ‘Em Fancy!

    • Ground cardamom: Adds an unexpected floral note that is just delightful.
    • Ground ginger: A warm, spicy kick that pairs perfectly with apples.
    • Sea salt: A tiny bit of salt makes the sweetness pop!
    • Cayenne: Adds a little heat for those who like things a bit spicy!

How to Make Air Fryer Apple Chips

    Step 1: Prep Apples

Slice apples into small â…›-inch rounds using a mandoline or very sharp knife. Leave the skin on, but remove the seeds. You can core them if you want. Then pat completely dry with paper towels.

Toss apple slices with lemon juice and water in a large bowl. Let sit 2 minutes, then drain off excess liquid and pat dry.

    Step 2: Season

Next, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and optional additional spices (cardamom, ginger, salt, and cayenne). Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over apples and toss until evenly coated.

Now let the seasoned apples sit for 10 minutes. This’ll draw out any moisture and help spices adhere.

    Step 3: Air Fry

    It’s air frying time!

Arrange your apple rounds in a single layer in your air fryer basket (make sure they don’t overlap).

Air fry at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, flip, then 6-8 minutes more until edges are golden brown and slightly curled.

Step 4: Let Cool & Serve

Once done, take them out and let them cool on a tray or plate. They’ll continue crisping as they cool.

    Serve and enjoy!

    Storage Directions

Store any leftover homemade apple chips in an airtight container up to 5 days. However, they are best enjoyed within the first 2-3 days for optimal crispness. You can also store them in a sealed plastic bag to maintain their crunchiness.
