This easy appetizer comes together with just a few ingredients, making it the perfect tasty snack for game day, movie night, or anytime cravings strike.

    Why Air Fry Mozzarella Sticks?

The first time I made mozzarella sticks in a deep fryer, it was a mess. Hot oil everywhere and a lingering fast-food smell that wouldn’t quit. Switching to the air fryer made all the difference. It’s quicker, cleaner, and still gives you that crispy outside with gooey melted cheese inside.

These homemade mozzarella sticks are simple to make, full of real ingredients, and taste better than anything from the freezer aisle. No deep frying, no mystery fillers, just a better way to snack.

    Made with Simple Ingredients

    • Mozzarella cheese sticks: Mozzarella string cheese creates that irresistable gooey cheese center.
    • All-purpose flour: Used for dredging the cheese sticks.
    • Eggs: These act as the binder to hold everything together.
    • Breadcrumbs: I use a mix of plain and panko breadcrumbs for that crunchy texture.
    • Seasoning blend: Garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper give the breadcrumbs all that yummy Italian flavor.
    • Cooking spray: Using an oil spray makes the cheese sticks crispy without needing to be deep-fried.
    • Chopped parsley: For garnish, adding freshness and color to the dish.
    • Marinara sauce: Store-bought or homemade marinara sauce is the classic for dipping!

    Preparation

First, cut your mozzarella sticks in half. Smaller pieces mean fewer messy leaks!

Now set up your breading station: flour in one shallow bowl, beaten eggs in another, and seasoned breadcrumbs (mixed with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper) in a third.

Dip each piece into the flour, then into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it with the breadcrumb mixture.

Then, pop them on a tray and freeze them for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while cooking.

    Cooking

When you’re ready to cook, fire up your air fryer to 390°F. Lightly spray the basket with oil, arrange your sticks in a single layer, and give the tops a quick spritz too.

    Pro Tip

For best results, make sure there is enough room to create that delicious crispy coating.

Air fry for 5–7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Repeat the same with the remaining mozzarella sticks.
