This Apple Cinnamon Swirl Bread is the ultimate fall baked treat, blending the sweet taste of diced apples with rich, warm cinnamon swirls in every bite. It’s perfect for breakfast, as a snack, or even as a dessert!
Why You’ll Love This Apple Cinnamon Bread Recipe
This time of year, I’m all about baking bread. I love my Chocolate Banana Bread Bliss, Cinnamon Roll Monkey Bread, and Best Damn Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce, but this Apple Cinnamon Bread recipe might be my new favorite!
Imagine a soft, moist crumb infused with warm cinnamon, studded with tender pieces of sweet apple that burst with flavor… so good! And the good thing about this recipe is that it uses basic ingredients, and most of the work is done in the oven. Gotta love it.
Ingredients
- Light brown sugar: For that deep, caramel-y sweetness.
- Ground cinnamon: Puts the “cinnamon” in cinnamon apple bread! Gotta have that cozy spice.
- All-purpose flour: The base for our delicious loaf.
- Baking powder: Helps our bread get nice and fluffy.
- Fine salt: Just a pinch to balance all that sweetness.
- Unsalted butter: Adds richness and makes everything better.
- Granulated white sugar: Our main sweet component.
- Eggs: Binds it all together.
- Vanilla extract: A little extra warmth and flavor.
- Warm milk: Keeps our bread extra moist and tender.
- Apple: Diced apples for those sweet, juicy bursts in every bite.
What are the best apples to use for apple cinnamon bread?
It’s best to use firmer apples like Granny Smith, Gala, and Honeycrisp. These types of apples hold their shape well and won’t turn to mush when baked. They also have a good balance of tartness and sweetness that pairs well with the warm cinnamon flavors in the bread. I’d steer clear of softer apples like Red Delicious or Golden Delicious, as they tend to get too soft and mushy when baked.
How to Make Apple Cinnamon Bread
Step 1: Preheat Oven
To start, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Then line and lightly grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon; set aside. Then in a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Step 3: Mix the Wet Ingredients
In another large bowl, beat the granulated sugar and butter with a hand mixer for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then mix in the vanilla.
Step 4: Combine
Next, add the dry ingredients in two additions, alternating with the milk, and mix just until combined. The batter will be nice and thick.
Step 5: Assemble
Spread half of the batter in the pan, then sprinkle half the cinnamon–sugar evenly over it. Scatter half the chopped apples in an even layer and lightly swirl with a knife or toothpick.
Now dollop and gently spread the remaining batter over the apples. Top with the remaining chopped apples, then finish with the remaining cinnamon–sugar (so it ends with the same layer as the middle). Lightly swirl again if you like!
Step 6: Bake
Bake for 50–60 minutes, until a tester comes out clean. If the top browns early, tent with foil for the last 10–15 minutes.
Step 7: Rest & Serve
Finally, let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then lift it out to a cooling rack to cool completely before slicing. Enjoy!
