Crispy skin, sticky BBQ, and melt-in-your-mouth meat… these are the hallmarks of the best damn Grilled BBQ Chicken Wings. And guess what? You only need a few pantry staples, including a fun twist: grape jelly! They’re sweet, smoky, tangy, and perfect for your next summer cookout.
Sticky n’ Delicious Chicken Wings Recipe
I’ve made chicken wings all kinds of ways, but my personal favorite cooking method has to be on the grill. Not only do you get irresistibly crispy wings this way, but they get a nice char and smoky flavor that is just next level.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my Instant Pot Buffalo Style Chicken Wings, Best Damn Air Fryer Chicken Wings, and Honey Garlic Chicken Wing recipes, but there’s definitely something special about these grilled BBQ chicken wings.
I love the BBQ sauce-grape jelly combo! And I’m pretty sure you will too.
Ingredients
- Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce: This is my go-to, but feel free to use your favorite BBQ sauce.
- Grape jelly: Such a great way to add a hint of sweetness to these wings!
- Melted butter: Adds richness and helps to make the sauce smooth.
- Apple cider vinegar: Just a touch for some tanginess.
- Salt & black pepper: Enhances all the flavors.
- Chicken wings: For best results, use bone-in, skin-on whole chicken wings.
Preparation
Start by preheating your grill to high heat.
In a saucepan or large bowl, combine barbecue sauce, grape jelly, melted butter, apple cider vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Stir until smooth and set aside.
Cooking
Place the wings skin-side down on the hot grill rack. Grill for 5 minutes. Then flip the wings and reduce the heat to medium. Baste with the sauce.
Grill for another 5 minutes, then flip and baste again. Continue flipping and basting every 5 minutes, repeating until the wings have been basted 3-4 times total.
After the final flip and baste, check the internal temperature in the thickest part of the wings. They are done when they reach 165°F.
Pro Tip
You can always use an instant-read thermometer if you’re unsure if your chicken is done. I always find this very helpful.
Serving
Once your chicken wings are ready, serve them up hot and dig in! You can serve them as is or with your favorite dipping sauce. I usually go for ranch, blue cheese, honey mustard, or more barbecue sauce.
Enjoy!
What Goes Well with Grilled BBQ Chicken Wings?
These grilled BBQ chicken wings are definitely the star here, but the right sides and drinks can take things up a notch. Try a refreshing Watermelon Feta Salad or crunchy Ramen Noodle Salad.
You also can’t go wrong with classics like Instant Pot Potato Salad, buttery Grilled Corn, or saucy Baked Beans. Then, finish everything off with a refreshing Raspberry Nojito Mocktail. BBQ night, sorted!
Storage & Reheating
Store your BBQ wings in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply place them on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F for about 10 minutes or until heated through.
